One of London's most recognizable television personalities, Gordon is without a doubt one of the best
chefs in the world, and has several successful restaurants to prove it.

 |
Scottish by birth, Gordon was brought up in England after his parents moved south to Stratford-upon-Avon.
His first career break came whilst playing football for Oxford United, where he was spotted by a Glasgow Rangers
scout during an F.A. youth club match. After completing trials, he was signed by the Scottish champions at the
age of 15. After a disappointing end to his career, Gordon turned to hotel management school. After
graduating, he apprenticed with Marco Pierre White at Harvey's in London. Two years later, he joined Albert
Roux at Le Gavroche. He also worked for three years in France with master chefs Jöel Robuchon and Guy Savoy.

In 1993, Gordon took the reins of the newly opened Aubergine. Within three years, he had earned two
Michelin stars. After a breakup with the restaurant's backers, Gordon left Aubergine, taking his staff
with him. In 1998, he opened his first wholly owned restaurant, Gordon Ramsay's, at the age of 32. The London
restaurant was quickly recognized as one of the best in the world and awarded three stars by Michelin.

Gordon's dynamic personality has made him a favorite of TV producers in America and the UK.
A delightful BBC program is Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. In it, Gordon travels around England visiting some of the
worst-run restaurants in the country and spends the next two weeks trying to make them successful. His notoriety grew
enormously with the release of Hell's Kitchen. First airing in the UK, Gordon had two weeks to turn British
celebrities into professional chefs. The American version soon followed with a variety of candidates competing
to win their own restaurant.

Most recently, Gordon completed his autobiography, Humble Pie, a detailed and honest account of his life
both in and out of the kitchen; the book was published by Harper Collins on October 2, 2006.
